Where is the Foundation Reading Screen Testing of Exercise 6 and 7 Located?

In Foundation students are taught to read and spell words using Stage 1 Target 1-2 phonic concepts applied in CVC, CCVC, and CVCC words. Therefore, the Foundation Screening and Tracking Manual includes the stimulus pages required to test students reading up to Stage 1 Target 4 digraphs. If you require testing above this using Stage 2 and 3 phonic concepts you can use the below resources:

The stimulus pages for Stage 2 and 3 phonic concepts for the Foundation Screening Record Form are located in the Phonic and Sight Word Sequence book (pg. 72).

There are also stimulus pages for Stage 2 and 3 phonic concepts located in the Year 1 & 2 Screening and Tracking Manual (pg. 19).

However, it is important to note that PLD advises Foundation students improve their automaticity in Stage 1 concepts before progressing into Year 1 content (Stage 2 concepts).

The Foundation Year should provide students with repeated opportunities to practice and consolidate their skills, only progressing to more difficult concepts when a high level of accuracy and automaticity is observed. This can be tested through observing their reading strategies while completing the Early Reading Screen or while reading dictation passages with late Stage 1 concepts e.g., are they blending each sound together or whole word reading?

Additionally, before progressing into Stage 2 concepts we recommend you consider the Foundation students skills in spelling and writing which requires deeper skill development than reading. This can be tested through the Phonic Placement Test found in the Foundation Screening and Tracking Manual or completing a Stage 1 Target 4 Review from the Phonic and Sight Word Sequence book (pg. 63).
