We have used the previous pre-literacy screen and I'm just curious why the screen has been updated?

Yes, there have been updates to the Early Literacy Screening Tool, which is linked to the whole school literacy strategy booklet (downlowd it HERE).

The screen presents very short 1-minute sub-tests.
For the majority of the class, the 1-minute subtests to 'check-in' on the development of key skills which are being taught in class will be sufficient.

Should students present with a more complex profile this assessment can be used: https://pld-literacy.org/product/difficulty-learning-the-alphabet/ The majority of students will not require this more detailed screen and purely subtest 2 will be sufficient to determi8ne readiness for an alphabet program and also for onset and rime blending.
