We have used the previous pre-literacy screen and I'm just curious why the screen has been updated?

Yes, there have been updates to the Early Years Pre-Literacy Screen, available in the Early Years Screening & Tracking Manual, which is linked to the Early Years Teaching Sequence Manual.

The screen presents very short 1-minute subtests.
For the majority of the class, the 1-minute subtests to 'check-in' on the development of key skills which are being taught in class will be sufficient.

Should students present with a more complex profile this assessment can be used: https://pld-literacy.org/product/difficulty-learning-the-alphabet/. The majority of students will not require this more detailed screen and purely subtest 2 will be sufficient to determine readiness for an alphabet program and also for onset and rime blending.
