Term 4 End of Year Assessments? Are they required? How to finish the school year?

  • __There is no end of Term 4 screening. __The purpose of end of term screening is to set a teaching plan for the coming term. As a matter of routine, setting the Term 1 teaching should not be the responsibility of the previous teacher, but the new teacher taking on the class.
  • However, for 'new schools' commencing their PLD 'launch and journey' we often suggest exist testing, so that on the pupil free days on January, schools can traing and induct staff into the PLD process. **However, for Years 1-6. However, we suggest that you use a standardised assessment at the end of Term 4. More information here. **



Early Years and Foundation:
  • Within the Early Years and Foundation Screening & Tracking Manuals, you will see no end of Term 4 screening pages.
  • Within the Early Years and Foundation Tracking Sheets, you will see no end of Term 4 Screenign columns.
  • You will see here that there is a Mid-term (Week 6) screening only.


Years 1 & 2:
  • Within the Year 1 &2 Screening & Tracking Manual you will find:
  • The Early Reading Screen (pages 16-20) should be completed by the end of Week 2 in Term 4.
  • The Spelling Placement screen (week 10 Term 3) should have been administered to establish the teaching plan for Term 4.
  • There is NO end of Term 4 screen that is recommended by PLD.
  • However, in mid-November, PLD does recommend a standardised reading and spelling test (to provide a reading age and spelling age/or stanine). Read more about this here:

Years 3, 4, 5 & 6:
  • Within the Year 3, 4, 5 & 6Screening & Tracking Manual you will find:
  • The Early Reading Screen (pages 16-20) should be completed by the end of Week 2 in Term 4.

  • For students operating at a Junior Primary level: The Early Reading Screen (pages 24 -27) should be completed by the end of Week 2 in Term 4.
