How do I set up tracking sheets for composite or multi-aged classes?

How to Set Up Multiage Classroom Tracking Sheets? (e.g. Year 1-3, Year 3-6)

Multi-age classrooms, where students from different year levels learn together, will require slight alterations to the PLD tracking sheet. PLD’s approach is well suited to multi-age classrooms as the PLD’s tracking sheets provide a structured way to monitor student development while allowing for differentiation based on ability rather than age.

Step 1: Select the Appropriate Tracking Sheet Format

Do not track your students on two separate tabs, rather we recommend tracking on one tab and forming three teaching groups which reflect the range of ability found in your classroom.

If you are a Year 3/4 classroom use the tab allocated for Year 4 to ensure you have all the Stages available to track both Year 3 and Year 4 students on the one tab.

Step 2: Add an additional column after student names

To determine whether students are keeping up with the Teaching Sequence Manual add an additional column next to the students names indicating their Year level.
