There been changes to the teaching sequence for Year 1 in the Year 1 & 2 Teaching Sequence Manual.
You can download a current version of the Teaching Sequence Manual HERE
WHY THE CHANGES? There have been three main contributing factors to the change:
Changes in state curriculum expectations, across many of the states within Australia. See how PLD aligns to the new Australian National Curriculum HERE
The Year 1 Term 3 UK Phonics Check, when presented to students in Australia suggest that Year 1 students by Term 3 should score 28/40, when reading a range of real and nonsense words.

Science of Reading research suggests for Tier 1 we need to progress faster than we have in the past.
|| KEEP IN MIND
The Teaching Sequence outlines are just guides. Also they are relevant to the Tier 1 students. Tier 2 and 3 will not progress as rapidly through the sequence.
It is the placement test that ultimately determines the plan for teaching. PLD happily provides support to guide schools though this process.
