Phoneme Manipulation in PLD programs.

PLD does not offer phonemic manipulation (addition, deletion, and substitution) tasks within its programs.
PLD's programs provide a focus on initial phoneme awarenes (aliteration) to prepare students for the alphabet, blending (to prepare for decoding) and segmenting (to prepare for spelling). Thereafter phonemic awareness and blending and segmenting is presented within colour coded words.

From the PLD research, it would seem that researchers are calling for further research as to whether phonic manipulation tasks (without letters) actually is of benefit to student's literacy development.
