# Direct Instruction and PLD

| **With regard to lesson structure, PLD is not 'direct instruction', but explicit, and hence there is some room for teachers to add their own teaching style. This contrasts with DI (direct instruction), which is fully scripted. **
**PLD provides a Year 1-6 lesson format;** located in the [Year 1 & 2](https://pld-literacy.org/product/year-1-2-teaching-sequence-manual/), and [Years 3, 4, 5, & 6](https://pld-literacy.org/product/year-3-4-5-6-teaching-sequence-manual/) Teaching Sequence Manuals and also Page 14 of the [Whole School Literacy Plan](https://pld-literacy.org/about/whole-school-literacy-strategy/). 
The lesson plan states what teaching should occur within those time frames.
