Composite Classes & which SSP KIts? eg F/1 classes Do I need a Foundation SSP Kit or a Year 1 SSP Kit - or Both?
Composite Classes can work with the SSP Integrated Kits when schools purchase the 'kit' for the higher of the two year levels:were
- For example: If there were a Year 1/2 class, then the school could purchase a Year 2 kit (and place the Year 1s and no doubt some of the Year 2s on catch-up programs)
- Likewise, if a school has a Year 3/4 composite class, then the school could purchase a Year 4 Kit, and place the Year 3s (and likely some of the Year 4's) on catch-up programs.
- The Foundation SSP Kit includes Term 1 pre-CVC flipbooks and early childhood tasks that are not included in the Year 1 SSP Kit.
- To supplement this, you could add SSP TimeSavers Stages 1 & 2 and Phonic Dictation Stage 1 and Phonic Dictation Stage 2 for the Year 1 students.
- This ensures you have all the Pre-Literacy resources for your Pre-Primary (Prep) students, resources for Year 1 students operating within Tier 2 and Tier 3 (Foundation level) and additional materials to support your Year 1 students following the Year 1 Teaching Sequence (Tier 1).
- The Year 1 SSP Kit covers the Year 1 Teaching Sequence, which is slightly more formalised for the Pre-Primary (Prep) students, and without the early childhood tasks.
- Although Foundation students will be working through early Stage 1 material (known as Catch-Up Programs in the Year 1 Kit), they will follow a more structured process.
- You will still need the Term 1 pre-CVC Flip Books from the Foundation SSP Kit to cover early phonics content for the Pre-Primary students.
- Purchasing both the Foundation and Year 1 SSP Kits is not recommended. Select one of the kits (and then select the required supplementary programs outlined above).**
